Martindale Abrasion Tester Specifications

Author:QINSUN Released in:2023-03 Click:124

1. Test conditions: 20±2℃, 65±2% relative humidity.

2. Examples: woven and knitted fabrics

3. Consumables: felt, friction fabric, foam pad

4. Applicable standards

5 Preparation

5.1 Friction test piece and sample installation method (see ISO 12947-1:1998)

5.2 Annex II: Pilling test piece and sample installation method (see ISO 12945-2:2000)

5.4 Instrument calibration method - Lissajous curve (see ISO 12947-1: 1998)

The bearing housing was set up as described above for the friction test fixture. Paste white paper on the friction table, then put the mobile platform and insert the special brush into the corresponding bearing sleeve. Rotate the brush a little to check if it is smooth.

Go to the instrument control panel and select Calibrateodus. This mode has a built-in program, which can completely draw the Lissajous curve.

Press START to start and the instrument will stop automatically after 16 cycles.

Check that the curve is as shown on the right: the curves are evenly spaced and the lines are clear and smooth.

To measure the size of the Lissajous curve: Take the drawn curve and lay it flat on the table, draw a straight line along the outer edge of the curve with a ruler and a pen. Then use a ruler or vernier caliper to measure the distance between two pairs of parallel lines. The size prescribed by the standard is: 60.5 ± 0.5 mm.

Multi Preset Mode: Allows up to 9 preset values. The goal is to run several tests simultaneously on one instrument. Suppose there are two different tests, one has 3 samples and needs to be tested 5000 times, and the other has 4 samples and needs to be tested 8000 times.r are tested. Then we can assign number 1-3 to the first sample and set the number of tests in the controller to 5000 times, then assign number 4-8 to the second sample and set the test in the controller times is 8000 times. When the test has been performed up to 5000 times, the instrument stops and gives an alarm. At this point sample one can be taken from position 1-3. Press START again, the instrument will continue to complete the remaining tests (3000 times). If there are more groups of tests, the method is similar.

The settings in the control panel are also very simple:

After entering the Multi Preset mode, first select the test bits (such as 1, 2, 3) to be matched, and then press Enter to confirm. Then enter the first preset value (e.g. 5000 times) and press Enter to confirm.

Use the same method to set other default valuesellen. After all settings are done, press START to test. Of course, the test sample and the abrasive cloth should be installed first as needed.

6. Test Steps

6.1 Abrasive Test

Endpoint assessment methods vary depending on the test criteria.

6.1.1 Sample Breakage Determination

Usually test 4 samples, installed on each friction table.

Check the sample periodically without removing the sample from the sample holder.

This test usually requires a magnifying glass or microscope.

The end of the test is considered to have been reached when at least two yarns have broken in the test area of the sample. This must be done until all samples have reached the end point.

Report individual and average results.

6.1.2 Determination of the mass loss

The intervals for the determination of the mass loss are shown in ttable 1.

The samples used for the measurement before and after each predetermined friction interval are weighed.

Make a table of the mass loss corresponding to the number of frictions.
