Sharing knowledge points on rubbing color fastness testing using electric rubbing color fastness tester

Author:QINSUN Released in:2023-10 Click:86

Electric Friction Color Fastness Meter is used to test the fading performance of dyed fabrics under the action of friction under dry/wet conditions. Suitable for testing in large batches or over long periods, equipped with a preset electronic counter.

1. General sampling rules for rubbing color fastness testing: Each color pattern in the sample should be tested;

2. Sample Size and Quantity

Conventional Friction Color Fastness Meter: The minimum sample size is 50 130 mm; 2 pieces each in the longitude and latitude directions. When used in AATCC series standards, take samples at a 45° angle along the warp and weft threads and take only 2 pieces.

Rotary rubbing color fastness tester: sample size is not lesse at 25.25mm; it is necessary that each color and pattern be tested.

Curved surface friction color fastness tester: the sample size is not less than 30.220mm; 2 pieces each in longitude and latitude.

For color fastness to simple rubbing, it is not necessary to cut it from the sample. As long as it is convenient to install the sample, the sample does not need to be cut to save testing time and improve efficiency.

 3. Adjusting the humidity of the sample

The sample to be tested and the white friction cloth for testing should be under standard atmospheric pressure (temperature of 20° C, humidity 65%). Humidity reduction should not be less than 4 hours; or for materials with high moisture absorption such as wool and cotton, the humidity adjustment time should be increased.

Air humidity will affect the coefficient of fburping of the fabric surface. Moisture will also change the morphology of the fibers in the micro state and change the stress area of the fabric surface. Moisture control is a relatively important step and should not be abandoned to save testing time, especially for fabrics made from high moisture regain fibers.

4. Moisture content of wet rubbing

Except for moisture content of AATCC series standards of 65%, other standards are 95-100%. The different moisture contents of wet rubbing directly affect the results of wet rubbing tests. The moisture content must be strictly controlled. After wetting the friction cloth, the test should be completed within the specified time; otherwise, due to long-term use, the water on the friction cloth will evaporate, thereby reducing the moisture content. Thus affecting the test results.
