Influencing factors of rubber abrasion test

Author:QINSUN Released in:2021-05 Click:878

Abrasion testing machines have been widely used in rubber abrasion testing. Due to the different conditions of use of various rubber products, there are many types of abrasion testing machines used. The experimental results obtained by different abrasion testing machines are different, even incomparable.

The testing machines used for friction and wear can be roughly divided into three categories: sliding type, metal scraper type and rolling type. The sliding abrasion tester can make the sample and the friction surface produce 100% relative sliding, thus producing strong wear. The metal scraper enlarges the convex surface of the abrasive. The metal scraper of different aggregate shapes can be used to study the wear mechanism under different conditions. The blunt metal scraper usually used is the best tool for studying fatigue wear. The characteristic of the rolling abrasion machine is that it can produce a small relative sliding speed ratio, the load experienced by the sample is periodic and discontinuous, and it is easy to spread anti-sticking powder during the test.

The influence of external conditions on rubber wear

   1. The effect of stress

   2. The influence of friction surface condition

   3. The influence of friction coefficient and friction power

   4. The influence of sliding speed and temperature

   5. Environmental impact

The influence of rubber on abrasion test

  1 Tensile strength

   2. Elastic modulus and hardness

  3. Fatigue performance

   4. Hysteresis performance

   5. Glass transition temperature

The result of the abrasion test is generally the abrasion strength, that is, the amount of abrasion (mass loss, volume loss or abrasion depth) per unit time, unit distance or unit friction power. It can also be expressed by the ratio of the abrasion of the test rubber to the standard rubber under the same test conditions-the wear resistance index.

The relationship between the amount of wear under different severe scales

The severity is the intensity of the abrasion. The three basic elements that determine the severity of abrasion are: the state of force, the friction surface and the environment (temperature and weather).

The test severity can also be expressed by friction power, but in many cases, the measurement of friction power is difficult. The experimental results and the use performance can have a good correlation, which requires that the severity of the testing machine is closer to the severity of the use conditions, the better. According to the relationship of the abrasion test results under different severe scales, suitable laboratory abrasion test conditions can be selected, and the performance of the product under actual use conditions can be inferred from the test results.
