ECE R118 Detailed Requirements for Combustion Performance Testing of Automotive Interior Materials

Annex 6 of ECE R118 states the level of testing to determine the Combustion Efficiency of materials, Annex 8 specifies the tests to determine the vertical combustion efficiency of materials.

ECE R118 has different combustion test requirements for different automobile interior components. What we want to mention here is that the composite material of ECE R118 is made of several layers of acacia or different material surfaces bonded together. are closely bonded to the instrument by means of welding, coating, soldering, etc. However, materials that bond different materials together by stitching, high frequency welding , riveting, etc. are not composite materials. It is important to note that allAdhesive used to integrate parts should do so as little as possible to increase the etching properties of the material.

Materials that comply with the Schedule 6 Horizontal Materials Burning Efficiency Test include:

1. Finished filling materials for the filling of seats (including driver\'s seats) and their accessories,

2. Roof covering

3. Cladding of the side and rear walls, including the partition wall

4. Materials related to heat and/or sound,

5. Bottom Liner,

6. Interior of luggage racks, heating and ventilation ductsMaterial,

7. Luminous Material

If the horizontal combustion efficiency of the worst test result does not exceed 100 mm/min, or if the flame goes out before reaching lAt the last measurement point, the test is passed.

The following materials must pass the test of Annex 7 to this Act:

1. Roof covering

2. Luggage rack, covering of heating and ventilation ducts placed on the roof,

3. Luggage Luminous materials used on frame and/or roof,

If the droplet formed by the material in the worst test result did not ignite the cotton, this indicates that the test was successful.

Curtains and shading materials (and/or other hanging materials) must pass the test in Annex 8.

If the vertical combustion efficiency of the worst test result does not exceed 100mm/min, it indicates that the test has passed and the tested materials from Annex 6 to Annex 8 are not required;

Metal and glass components

Non-metallic individual seat components with a substance content less than 200 g, if the non-metallic substance content of each individual seat component is more than 400 g, each material must be tested;

A component whose area does not exceed the following value:

Connected pieces of 100 cm2 or 40 cm3 which serve as seats;

seat armrests of 300 cm2 or 120 cm3 and armrests up to 1 meter long inside the cabin;

cable

These parties cannot provide samples according to the size specified in Chapter 3.1 of Annex 6, Chapter 3. of Annex 7 and Chapter 3.1 of Annex 8.

It should be noted above that cSome materials must pass both the horizontal burning rate test in Annex 6 and the vertical burning rate test in Annex 8 of ECE R118.

This is the end of this introduction. In the next issue, we will introduce the detailed requirements of Annex 6 of ECE R118 for horizontal burning rate testing of certain automobile interior parts.
