Scientists achieve wireless connectivity of brain computer interfaces for the first time without the need for posterior brain intubation

What will life sciences ultimately look like? Some people jokingly say that it is the insertion of a tube in the back of the brain, and the fusion of humans and machines. However, in reality, the connection between the brain and machines mainly relies on wired connections, and now there is wireless connection.

This week, a new research result from BrainGate, an American company, was published in IEEE Communications. They successfully tested BCI wireless brain computer technology, and two paralyzed men, aged 35 and 63, used BrainGate's wireless devices to connect their computers to machinery.

This wireless transceiver weighs only 40 grams and is about 5x5 centimeters in size. It inherits various sensors and can capture and translate signals emitted by brain neurons into computer commands, so that paralyzed or other inconvenient individuals can control the machinery to complete operations.

Previously, brain computer interfaces required cable connections, which were very inconvenient to use. Wireless connections solved this problem, and the speed was the same as wired connections. BrainGate's wireless devices can be used for 24 hours at a time and can also be used while sleeping.
