According to foreign media reports, Samsung Electronics has announced that it will establish a strategic partnership with Tesla, which will enable Tesla's energy products, such as Powerwall batteries, solar inverters, and wall power connectors, to be connected to the Samsung SmartThings Energy platform. The technology is expected to be showcased at CES 2024.

Samsung stated in a press release that it will collaborate with Tesla through an open application programming interface (API). This collaboration will also help Samsung achieve its goal of providing customers with a convenient and seamless home experience.

Chanwoo Park, Executive Vice President of Samsung Electronics and Head of IoT Development Team of Device Platform Center, commented on the collaboration between the two parties. He said, "Now, in addition to Tesla applications, customers of Tesla Energy products can also manage and monitor the power status in their homes through SmartThings Energy and Samsung devices, which will provide customers with richer access and connection methods. The cooperation with Tesla is an important milestone for Samsung Electronics, allowing our solutions to be more widely applied beyond home appliances."

Through this collaboration, Samsung SmartThings Energy will be able to synchronize many energy features of Tesla applications. This means that alerts issued by features such as Storm Watch on Powerwall batteries can be displayed on devices connected through SmartThings, such as Samsung TVs and smartphones. Users can also activate AI energy mode in SmartThings to optimize Powerwall backup power during power outages.

Drew Baglino, Senior Vice President of Powertrain and Energy Engineering at Tesla, expressed optimistic views on the collaboration with Samsung Electronics. He said, "We are delighted to have new ways for our products to interact with other smart devices in our customers' homes. We have recently released the FleetAPI, which allows developers to interact with our cars, Powerwalls, solar inverters, and wall power connectors. Samsung is at the forefront of consumer smart home technology, and we are pleased that Samsung has become an early developer.". In the future, customers will be able to view the power grid connection status through multiple devices and intelligently control household loads, extending the power supply time of Powerwall in the event of a power outage

Samsung is expected to showcase the integration effect of SmartThings Energy and Tesla Powerwall at the CES 2024 booth. The service is expected to be launched in the second quarter of 2024.
