Using the TABER Wear Tester

TABER Abrasion Tester is a kind of abrasion testing machine, it is suitable for fabric, paper, paint, plywood, leather, floor tiles, glass, natural plastic Wait. The test method is that the rotating sample is held against a pair of grinding wheels and a specified load is applied. When the sample rotates, the abrasive wheel is driven to abrade the sample. Lost weight is the weight difference of the sample before and after the test. The optional grinding wheel models are: H18, H22, CS17, S32, S33. 1. Composition of TABER Abrasion Tester

TABER Abrasion Tester consists of three parts:

(1) Grinding wheel pressure arm

The grinding wheel is installed at the inside of the double arm, weights are installed on the outside of both arms, as shown in Figure 1, such a structure can be adapted to the replacement of any weights and grinding wheels under this method. The ASTMC1353-2009 described in this document uses the H-22 grinding wheel and the weight of 1000g.

(2) Rotating platform

The rotating platform is used to place and fix samples There is a screw rod with a diameter of 9 mm in the center of the platform, and the drilled sample is placed on the rotating platform by the screw rod and a nut is used to screw it into the threaded rod to fix the sample. The rotating platform can rotate according to the rotation speed set by the equipment.

(3) Operating platform and vacuum cleaner

The operating platform mainly controls the rotating platform of the revolutions and the rotational speed of the equipment. The vacuum cleaner sucks the powder removed from the sample into the dust collection jar.

2. Basic steps of the TABER abrasion tester

The sample is placed on a rotating platform , fixed. Install the grinding wheel on the inside of the grinding wheel pressure arm, install the required weight at the bend and drop it vertically from the vertical direction so that the grinding wheel contacts the sample. Turn on the machine to set the number of times the platform rotates and the rotation speed. Start the spin cycle and turn on the vacuum cleaner. After counting the number of revolutions, lift the pressure arm of the grinding wheel, remove the sample and remove the dust on the surface of the sample with a brush. After the test is completed, the next sample can be reinstalled.

3. Standard ASTMC1353-2009 meaning and method of operation

Standard ASTMC1353-2009 test The method provides a means of quantifying the abrasion resistance of dimensional stone and can be used to compare material property classes. TABER Abrasion Tester in the laboratory To measure the abrasion resistance of the stone size, the test conditions, the pressure between the sample and the abrasive, the iinstallation or voltage of the sample and the type of sample are taken into account. or the number of materials. The sample is rubbed by the double-ended grinding wheel during the test, and depending on the type of abrasive and the sample, the surface of the grinding wheel will also change due to the test sample or other materials.

Test steps

1. Sample preparation and pretreatment

Select the sample, cut the sample into a 100mm × 100mm square, clean the surface of the sample, drill a hole in the center of the sample, and drill a through hole with a diameter of 10 mm. Dry in an oven at 60±2°C for 48 hours.

Take out the sample, place it in an environment with a temperature of 22±3°C and a humidity of 45~55% to cool down to room temperature, number the cooled samples and weigh them for the first time. The unit is g,accurate to two decimal places. Take out the sample and measure the volume specific gravity.

Install the H-22 grinding wheel on the wear-resistant machine. Before installation, use a caliper with an accuracy of 0.1 or higher to measure the grinding wheel to avoid wear of the grinding wheel after repeated testing. Too large will affect the test results. This standard requires that the diameter of the grinding wheel should not be less than 41.3 mm, otherwise the grinding wheel must be replaced.

2. Testing Process

Install the prepared sample on the wear-resistant machine Set on the turntable set the rotation speed to 72r/min, the number of revolutions to 1000, put down the grinding wheel and start grinding.

After grinding, remove the sample, use a brush to remove the dust on the surface of the sample, and use a balance with a unit of g and an accuracy of two decimal places placefor secondary weighing. Enter the weighed weight and specific gravity of the volume twice into the formula to calculate the abrasion resistance index of the sample.
