One key to efficient identity authentication: biometric technology

Biometric identification technology is the use of inherent physiological features of the human body, such as fingerprints, facial features, iris, and human behavioral characteristics, to identify personal identity. Biometric authentication consists of two main stages: registration and verification. In the registration stage, it is necessary to collect individual biometric data, convert it into a specific template (digitize the extracted information), save it to the local device or upload it to the server for unified management.

In the verification phase, users provide personal biometric data through sensors or readers, and then compare the collected biometric templates with the pre stored templates. If it matches, it indicates successful authentication. As biometric systems become increasingly mature, accuracy continues to improve, and recognition error rates gradually decrease, biometric technology has gradually become an efficient and convenient means of identity authentication, widely used in various payment scenarios.

User authentication is the first step in information security, and biometric technology, as a means of authentication, has significant advantages in reliability. Taking the elD developed by the Third Institute of Public Security as an example, it is completed by the Citizen Network Identity Recognition System of the Ministry of Public Security. The user's identity authentication is completed through biometric technology, and the network identity authentication is completed through the user's network identity application identification code (appeIDcode). The security and privacy are fully guaranteed, and elD can almost be loaded into mainstream mobile phone brands in China.

According to Transparency Market Research, a US consulting firm, the biometric market is expected to grow to $23.3 billion in 2020, with a compound annual growth rate of 15.7%. The biometric market is currently experiencing rapid growth.

Facial recognition, as a biometric technology based on human facial feature information for identity recognition, uses cameras or cameras to capture images or video streams containing faces, automatically detects and tracks faces in the images, and then performs a series of related facial recognition techniques on the detected faces, commonly known as facial recognition or portrait recognition.

Nowadays, facial recognition technology has become very mature, and the domestic industry chain is also becoming more perfect. It is worth noting that the combination of technologies such as 5G, AR, big data, cloud computing, and artificial intelligence with biometric recognition enables the realization of new demands and visions, empowers vertical industries, further industrial transformation and upgrading, and brings application scenarios such as eye tracking based advertising analysis, comprehensive image calling, and wearable device biometric identity recognition.

Security, as a key factor in the implementation of facial recognition, voiceprint recognition, and fingerprint recognition, has attracted the attention of people from all walks of life. From litigation to initial standardization, the application and protection of personal biometric information represented by facial features, fingerprints, gait, voiceprints, iris, etc. have entered people's vision. Many people have gradually realized that their faces belong to highly sensitive personal information. If collected and used casually, it will cause privacy leakage and information security risks. How to enhance safety during use has also become the primary consideration for technology enterprises and research and development institutions.
