How to Purchase a Qualified Martindale Wear Tester Advanced Reading:

The Martindale Wear Tester is used to measure the pilling of fabrics under light pressure. Under the specified load, the circular sample is rubbed with the abrasive material (ie standard fabric) with the planar motion of the trajectory forming the Lissajous figure. The sample holder containing the sample or abrasive is free to rotate about its axis perpendicular to the horizontal plane. Whether the sample holder is filled with the sample or the abrasive depends on the test method used. Its trajectory forms a plane frictional motion of a complete Lissajous figure, including 16-fold friction, i.e. the two outer driving wheels of the Martindale wear gauge rotates 16 times and the inner drive wheel rotates 15 times.
