At present, there is no specific test standard for the detection of air permeability of masks, mainly referring to the method of detecting air permeability fabric, such as GB/T 5453-1997 \"Determination of air permeability of textile fabrics\", ASTMD 737-1996 \"Test method for air permeability of textiles\" and ISO 9237-1995 \"Determination of air permeability of textile fabrics\".

Factors affecting the air permeability of the mask:

1. Structure of the mask

The material structure of the mask, the non-woven fabric generally has a single fiber network structure, good permeability toair, use is more common. For textile fabrics, the gap between the threads is closely related to the air permeability of the fabric. The larger the space, the better the gas permeability; for example, gauze masks with larger gaps have better air permeability than tightly packed poplin and twill fabric. In general, knitted masks are more breathable than woven masks.

The number of layers used for the mask material. Generally speaking, the more layers of masks, the lower the air permeability. If one or more layers of nonwovens with particle filtering effect are added between two layers of spunbonded nonwovens or two layers of knitted fabrics, the air permeability will be significantly reduced.

2. Wearing and using

When the mask and the face are not sealed well, there will be gaps, and the airflow resistance of the gaps is bmuch smaller than that of the filter material, and the airflow will preferentially come from the air resistance of the small At this time, the wearer feels that the air permeability is good, but the protective effect of the mask is significantly reduced at this time. Therefore, when wearing a mask, it is always necessary to choose a suitable mask for your face size. Use the adjustment features such as nose clip and mask straps to ensure that the mask fits the face tightly, so that good protection can be achieved when worn.

3. Filtration efficiency

There is a certain correlation between the air permeability of the mask and the filtration efficiency of the mask. When the mask is poorly ventilated, the mask prevents external substances from entering the mask, and the filtration efficiency increases, but the wearing comfort decreases.
