According to a report by Harbin News Agency on March 28th, the Minister of Agriculture of Kazakhstan, Omarov, recently stated at the first meeting of the Harbin Land Reform Commission that since 2015, local administrative agencies in Kazakhstan have been exercising national regulatory functions for unused land. From 2016 to 2020, a total of 15.4 million hectares of unused agricultural land were discovered, of which 5.4 million hectares were put back into circulation, 5.6 million hectares have been nationalized, and 4.4 million hectares are being reclaimed through judicial authorities.

In 2019, Kazakhstan revised its laws related to land use. Starting from January 2020, a pilot project for land use satellite measurement and remote sensing monitoring was launched in Akmora Oblast, Dongha Oblast, Kustanai Oblast, and Mangystau Oblast. As of December 2020, the pilot project has been completed and a total of 8.3 million hectares of unused agricultural land have been discovered, including 7.6 million hectares of pastures and 700000 hectares of arable land. At present, 2.2 million hectares of land have been re transferred, 2.6 million hectares have been nationalized, and 3.5 million hectares are being processed by local administrative authorities.

Starting from January 1, 2021, the land use satellite geodesy and remote sensing monitoring project has been promoted and implemented nationwide in Kazakhstan.
