Taber150-E Stiffness Tester User Guide

Product Description:

The Taber150-E Stiffness Tester is used to evaluate paper, cardboard, rubber, melamine board, vinyl, wire, pipe, textile , felt, leather, sheet metal, thin plastic disc and various other measures of stiffness and elasticity of flexible sheet-like materials with a thickness between 0.1 and 5.5 mm.

Installation of the device:

1. According to the actual situation, eg. B. Voltage, select the appropriate fuse to install, then insert the fuse slot into the selector switch. See Figure 2 for specific instructions

2. Connect to power supply (115 or 220 V, 50/60 Hz). Users only need to choose the most suitable of the two power cords.

3. Turn on the switch. The switch is located at the top of the power cord on the back of the instrument. \"Taber Stiffness Tester Model 150-E\" aappears on the screen. This indicates that the instrument is ready for use.

Sample Preparation:

The optional triple-cut shear sample cutter (Figure 3) can accurately cut paper, plastic, and sheet metal from less than 0.020 inch thick and apply uniform size sheets (1 1/2 x 2 3/4 inches or 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches). Simply place the material directly into the stepped end of the cutter and quickly squeeze the handle.

Immediately after cutting the material, mark the sample for identification. If the stiffness value of one side is too high due to the nature of the material, please perform a bi-directional test. It is recommended to prepare 5-10 samples for each fiber direction. Take the average of these samples as the final test result.

If the material is sensitive to moisture, the sample should be placed in an environment at tconstant temperature and humidity for at least 24 hours before testing be kept for authenticity, best time is 72 hours.

Before testing the sample, please make sure it is straight. However, do not attempt to straighten bent specimens. If the rod is strongly bent, choose a different pattern.

Procedure for Zone 1:

High Sensitivity Accessory #: 150-14

Stiffness test for very light materials such as cellophane, natural fibers, rayon, thin paper, metal foil, etc., a high sensitivity area should be selected. Figure 4 is a schematic representation of the accessories that will be fitted to the instrument if required.

Range 1 is used to test materials down to 1.0 units. Please follow the steps below when installing the accessories:

1. Pull forward to remove the wheel assembly.

2. Loosen the screw onthe side of the clamp to fully open the clamp.

3. The part of the device that uses the highly sensitive drive pin of the accessory is installed between the clips so that the drive pin just touches the bottom surface of the clip.

Please note: The top of the drive pin holder marked \"TOP\" is facing up.

4. Tighten the mounting screws. For a pendulum scale, the drive pin should be centered in the clip.

5. The clamping piece that drives the needle is placed between the two spindles of the turntable.

6. Cut out the design, size is 1 1/2 x 1 1/2 inches.

7. Loosen the thumbscrew and slide it to the right. This allows the sample to be fixed between the needles. Insert the sample between the needles with the trailing edge of the sample parallel and approximately 1/16 inch from the handle section. The second and fourth trebleThe pins on the left should be above the test specimen as shown in Figure 4.

8. Slide dTurn the thumbscrew to the left until the top pin touches the \'sample. (Note: Let the upper needle touch the sample instead of pressing firmly on the sample, otherwise the pendulum will deviate.)

9. Tighten the screw to fix the position of the needle d \'coaching.

10. In this way, the instrument has been correctly installed. Press Start to test.

Important: Before performing the test, please install a 10 unit balance weight on the bolt at the top of the pendulum as shown in Figure 4.

Tips: When using 150-E for a high sensitivity accessory to be tested, the range will be set to 1 and the device will switch to automatic or manual operation mode. In this setting range, the pendulum only works to the right and does not require the useation of the scroll wheel.

Area 2 steps:

1. Turn on the machine and adjust area 2.

2. As in figure 5shown, the positions of the pulleys should be swapped and reversed - the stop wheel is on the left and the standard wheel is on the right, and the top of the pendulum rotates the counterweights.

3. Select automatic mode. At this point, modify the necessary settings such as flags and times.

4. Install the test specimen, the exposed part of the top of the holder no longer than 1/16 inch, and the trailing edge is parallel to the surface of the pendulum. The sample must be in the center of the position of the reference line of the handles. The user can adjust it via the tightening screw if necessary.

5. Tighten the fixing screw to secure the specimen. For elastic samples, be careful not to overtighten them to deform them.

6. Adjust the horizontal angle of the stiffness meter fromso that the black line on the pendulum lines up with the 0 line on the turntable. the sample without deflecting it. Make sure the reels don\'t push the pendulum away from zero. If it is not at zero, gently move the roller backwards to reset the pendulum to zero.

8. Rotate the stop knob steadily and gently to move the left roller toward the sample until auto stop is activated. (A special ticking sound will sound when auto-off is activated.)

9. Rotate the Tuning Knob 1/4 turn to move the Left Scroll Wheel back slightly. There are 4 black lines on the adj adjustment knob which form a 90 degree angle with the adjacent lines. Choose the appropriate one and note its location. Then turn the adjustment knob counter-clockwiseof a watch so that the adjacent black line is exactly at the position of the previous black line. The 1/4 circle removal step is complete.

Note: It is not necessary to move the scroll wheel to the right to go back.

10. Once the instrument is configured, press to start the test.

Important Note: Due to the high sensitivity of the Stiffness Tester, it amplifies the material variation. Therefore, it is recommended to do 5 or more sample tests and take the average value.

Steps for Zone 3 and above:

Pendulum is calibrated at 10-100 stiffness units and no weights. Adding weight can change the range. Refer to the zone weight zone weight in the alignment chart to find out what weight needs to be added. The weights for the measuring range are mounted on studs at the lower end of the pendulum (Fig. 6). Additionally, when selecting the plameasuring weightthe desired weight is also displayed on the screen.

1. Turn on the device and set the test range (see page 4).

2. Position the rollers as shown in Figure 6. The Ratchet Stop Roller is installed on the right end of the turntable and the Standard Roller (Normal Roller) is installed on the left end.

3. When the display shows \"Press 0 for zero\", please press the 0 button.

4. Calibrate the instrument according to see calibration guidelines on page 12.

5. Install the specimen so that the top of the exposed support is no more than 1/16 inch, and the trailing edge is parallel to the surface of the pendulum but cannot be touched.

6. The sample should be on the center reference line of the device. The user can adjust it via the tightening screw if necessary. Tighten the clamp screw to secure the specimen. For elastic specimens,be careful not to overtighten them so that they do not deform.

7. Adjust the horizontal angle of the stiffness indicator so that the black line on the pendulum lines up with the 0 line on the turntable.

8. Use the adjustment knob to move the right roller to the right until it touches the sample without deflecting it. Make sure the reels don\'t push the pendulum away from zero. If it is not at zero, gently move the roller backwards to reset the pendulum to zero.

9. Rotate the stop knob steadily and gently to move the left roller toward the sample until auto stop is activated. (A special ticking sound will sound when auto-off is activated.)

10. Rotate the Tuning Knob 1/4 turn to move the Left Scroll Wheel back slightly. There are 4 on the adjustment button black lines that form a 90 degree angle with the adjacent liness. Choose the appropriate one and note its location. Then turn the adjustment knob counter-clockwise so that the adjacent black line is exactly aligned with the position of the previous black line. The 1/4 circle removal step is complete.

Note: It is not necessary to move the scroll wheel to the right to go back.

11. Once the instrument is configured, press to start the test.
