Martindale Abrasion Tester Experimental Procedures

The Martindale Abrasion Tester is used to detect the abrasion resistance and pilling performance of various fabrics. Under a certain pressure, the sample and the specified abrasive are subjected to continuous reversing friction, and the wear is compared with the standard parameters Evaluation of pilling.

Experimental steps:

01. The sample is parked in the laboratory environment for more than 8 hours.

02. Cut a test piece from the flat part of the test piece. If it is an insole, it must be cut to the transfer printing area.

03. Remove the load and load shaft from the test machine.

04. Remove the top plate and test fixture.

05. Sample device: Loosen the fixing ring on the test fixture, take out the sample compact, place the sample in the test fixture base and place a pad between the sample and the test fixture base. A piece of sample packing, then place the sample gland on the sample packing and fix it with a retaining ring.

06. The device of wool felt and rubbing cloth: loosen the fixing screw and fixing ring, place the wool felt on the base and spread the rubbing cloth and press 2.5 kg into thecenter of the rubbing cloth replace the retaining ring and tighten the retaining screws.

07. Replace the top plate and insert the load shaft (12KPa) through the round hole in the top plate.

08. Place the test fixture with the sample facing down on the base fixture, adjust the round groove of the test fixture to align with the load axis and insert the load shaft into the circular shape of the test fixture the groove.

09. Set the number of times according to the standard, start the switch and start the test.

10. After the set number of times has been reached, it will automatically stop and the sample will be removed to determine the result.

Precautions:

(1) Determination of the inspection interval (number of rubs): The inspection interval is set to prevent the friction of the substance exceeds the predetermined number of times. In the sample breakage test, prevent the sample from becoming worn, so that thenumber of abrasions cannot be determined. When evaluating the appearance change, set the inspection interval to avoid missing the friction times that cause the surface change of the sample.

(2) The test sample shall be placed in a relaxed state on a smooth, air-ventilated surface and placed at standard atmospheric pressure for at least 18 hours. When sampling, the distance from the edge of the fabric should be at least 100mm, and a sufficient number of samples (usually a minimum of 3 pieces) should be cut from the entire laboratory sample, and all information about the fabric should be included as much as possible.
