Martindale Abrasion Test Procedure

Author:QINSUN Released in:2023-02 Click:144

Operating principle:
The tissue to be tested is placed in the upper sample holder and rubbed against the abrasive placed on the grinding table. The friction trajectory is a Lissajous figure. After the specified friction phase according to the test requirements, remove the fabric and calculate the abrasion resistance index or evaluate the fuzzing and pilling level of the sample through visual description.

Instrument configuration and consumables:
(1) 9 sets of sample holders
(2) 9 pieces of 9 KPa and 12 KPa weights
(3) 38 mm, One set 140 mm samplers
(4) One set of 38 mm and 140 mm sampler backplates
(5) One set of pilling test sets
(6) One set of SM50 standard samples
(7) One set of EMPA standard pilling sample and one piece of SM-25 standard abrasive cloth 1.6m*5m
(8) One set of standard foam 1.5m*0.5m (4 pcs/set)< ( 9) One piece of standard felt sheet
(10) 20 pieces of 90 mm felt discs
(11) 50 pieces sampling sheets each ofØ38 mm and Ø140 mm
(12) Other necessary accessories recommended by the manufacturer.

Method
1. Sample preparation
In a standard environment, lay it flat and in an unstretched state for a certain time according to different standards. For example 24 hours (GB/T 4 80 2 .2-19 97), 16 hours (EN ISO 12947-4:1998)
2. Selection of samples
Cut from different parts of the whole door fabric Take a sample, the sample must be representative. If it is a beautiful fabric, the sample should include all the different textures and colors presented by the fabric surface;
3. Remove the load and load shaft from the testing machine;
4. Remove the top plate and test fixture;
5. Example device:
Loosen the retaining ring on the test fixture, remove the hold-down piece from the sample and place the sample in the test fixture base. When the tested fabric is not more than 500 g/m2, eeone piece of polyester foam placed between the sample and the metal block of the sample clamp; when it is more than 500 g/m2, or a composite fabric, no foam is required. The samples on each sample holder must be subjected to the same voltage.
6. Installation of wool felt and abrasive cloth:
Put the felt and abrasive on the grinding table, put the weight on the abrasive, then put the pressure ring on it and tighten the nut so that the pressure ring abrasives are fixed on the grinding table.
7. Place the grinding head on the abrasive and apply pressure;
8. Place the test fixture with the sample facing down on the base fixture and adjust the circular groove of the test fixture to align with the load axis so that the load axle is inserted into the circular groove of the test fixture;
9. Set the number of times according to the standard, start the switch, start the test, and stop automatically after reaching de set number of times:
10. Remove the sample and compare it with the standard photo in the evaluation box

Precautions:
(1) Determination of the inspection interval (the number of rubs): The inspection interval is set to prevent the friction of the fabric from exceeding the predetermined number of times. In the sample fracture test, avoid wearing out the sample so that the number of abrasions cannot be determined. When evaluating the appearance change, set the inspection interval to avoid missing the friction times that cause the surface change of the sample.
(2) The test sample shall be placed in a relaxed state on a smooth, air-ventilated surface and placed at standard atmospheric pressure for at least 18 hours. When sampling, the distance from the edge of the fabric should be at least 100 mm, and a sufficient number of samples (usually at least 3 pieces) should be taken from the entireThe laboratory sample should be cut and all information about the substance should be included as much as possible.

Notes on the operation of the Martindale Abrasion Tester:
1. The friction cloth cannot be used repeatedly, and a friction cloth must be replaced each time a test is completed;
2. Wool felt can be used Repeated use, if the surface is worn or stained, it must be replaced and can handle both sides are used;
3. The insole must be dressed first and then the Martindale abrasion test is carried out;
The test is completed. If the surface table of the final sample has abnormal phenomena such as wear, broken yarn, fluff, severe pilling and severe wear, it will be judged as unqualified. 5. When preparing samples, special attention should be paid to avoid hair changes on the cutting edges,to avoid unnecessary loss of quality and external changes.
6. Pay attention to operating specifications and personnel safety while using the instrument.
