Scope:
This standard uses the Martindale Abrasion Tester to measure the abrasion resistance of textiles. This standard applies to all textiles, but for pile fabrics, when the pile height reaches 2 mm, this standard method testing can be difficult.
This method uses the inch-pound system as the default unit, and the SI system can also be used as an auxiliary unit.
This standard does not entail any security. However, it is hoped that some management documents related to safety and hygiene will have to be prepared before this standard is applied.
Currently, other abrasion test methods are: ASTM D3884, ASTM D3885 ASTM D3886, ASTM D4157, ASTM D4158, AATCC 93.

Principle:
Abrasion test refers to the under the condition of known pressure - and friction mode, the sample is rubbed according to a trajectory of a geometric figure. The figure is a straight line at first, then gets wider and wider forming an ellipse, then becomes sma againller and finally along the opposite direction of the original straight line again forms a straight line. The sample is rubbed repeatedly along the above trajectory up to the specified number of cycles.11-3 describes different methods to evaluate the anti-wear performance.

Meaning and usefulness:
This method is generally considered not very good in business, and the accuracy of this method in commercial comparative tests is poor, due to the nature of the wear tester itself, using the same tester, whether internal or external comparison testing, often get different test results. Although this method is not recommended as a commercial test, it is widely used and preferred, especially in countries outside the United States.
If a dispute arises in business due to different test results, the buyer and the seller should agreeconduct comparative tests to find out the differences between the two laboratories. It may be better to choose an authoritative institution for comparison. At the same time, the samples selected by the two parties must be consistent. The general practice is that the two parties use random sampling to find out the overall level. Once a difference is found between the two parties, it must be corrected and reconciled as soon as possible, otherwise the reason for the difference in results must be explained to the other party.
Wear test is greatly affected by the conditions of the test, such as the properties of the wear-resistant cloth, the difference in the movement of the sample on the wear-resistant cloth, the tension of the sample, the pressure between the sample and the wear-resistant cloth, the test Any dimensional change will affect the wear resistance.
Due to the change of the wear-resistant fabric in the specifieded test, the results of this test differ. The wear-resistant cloth must be replaced regularly and tested against the standard. A carbide or equivalent surface can be used as a durable wear plate. At present, in a series of tests, it is not necessary to replace the wear plate accordingly. Due to the inconsistency of the actual use situation, the same wear plate can be used in the same period. Inner surface changes can be inconsistent. Due to the change of the surface finish, the wear-resistant plate will be changed. In addition, due to the influence of other substances such as test samples, the wear-resistant plate will have to be regularly adjusted. to clean. The evaluation method and different evaluators will also influence the final results of the wear test.
The abrasion resistance of textiles measured by instruments in the laboratory can be used as the performanceindex of textiles in practice and the evaluation of its sustainability.
Routine evaluation of abrasion resistance is applicable to all kinds of fabrics, including woven fabrics, non-woven fabrics, knitted garment fabrics, home textiles, industrial fabrics, carpets, etc. There are many different types of abrasion resistance tester, abrasion resistant cloth, test conditions , test procedures, methods for evaluating wear resistance, interpretation of results, etc.
All test methods and instruments used to measure wear resistance, if they are far apart, the results are obtained by different laboratories and different operators very different. But these methods are widely used.
Since there is a definition for measuring wear resistance, it is necessary to apply standard methods, which can clarify the problem and minimize disputes.

Test procedure:
All tests must be understandard conditions are performed.
Put a piece of standard wool felt on each test platform, with a diameter of about 140mm, then put a standard wear-resistant cloth of similar size, and press the loading weight on the platform so that the standard wear-resistant cloth and wool felt To make it flatter, clamp the wool felt and standard cloth, remove the loading weight and check whether the wool cloth is curled or not clamped tightly, and reload the sample if necessary. 10-3 For option 3, to evaluate the test results, the sample should be weighed to the nearest milligram.
Place the front of the sample on the sample holder ring. For the sample with a cloth weight of less than 500gsm, place a 38mm diameter sponge on the sample and then place it in the metal insert. and install according to manufacturer\'s instructions. Good for keeping samples.
Put the sample from the sample containerr on the wear-resistant platform and add the required pressure weight to the container sample: 9KPa for clothing fabrics, 12KPa for decorative fabrics.
Refer to the instrument manufacturer\'s instructions, set the number of instrument revolutions and start spinning. If it is option 1 and 2, check the sample during the testing process and at the end. As the end of the test approaches, reduce the number of turns on each inspection, and if the sample pills, trim it with curved scissors. For option 3, after reaching the end of the run, weigh the sample to the nearest millimeter.

Indicate test method ASTM D4966, sample description and sampling method.
According to the different test options, provide the following information:
The type of abrasion resistant cloth, the pressure used;
For option 1: average of the test endpoint results;
>For option 2 : under the specified number of cycles, rank nextwear-resistant gloss, color change and pilling;
For option 2: When the sample reaches gray card level 3 or lower, move the rounds to be averaged.
Any other method to determine the endpoint of the test, please specify;
For option 3: express the mass change before and after grinding in mg and in percentage.
