The protection level of the load cell For some manufacturers, the requirements for the load cell are relatively high and the sensor must have a high level of dust or water resistance. Today many brands of load cells have protection levels of IP65, IP66, IP67 and IP68 . Let's look specifically at the introduction below.

 

The IP code indicates the protection level of the enclosure for electrical products with a voltage of up to 72.5 kV. The national standard "GB4208-93 Enclosure Protection Level" stipulates that IP67 means the product can prevent dust and momentary immersion in water; IP68 besigns that the product can prevent dust and prevent continuous diving. It should be noted that such protection does not include external influences such as mechanical damage, corrosion, moisture or environmental factors. What is involved in this form of security is usually stated in the relevant product standard.

The difference between the load cell and general electrical products and secondary instrument products is that it is also a force-carrying component, which is constantly affected and deformed by force during operation. In addition, it may be subject to mechanical damage such as vibration, shock or impact, more severe corrosion due to the combined action of dust and water vapour, and operation in very humid ambient conditions. This is very different from the test conditions defined in GB4208-93.

What is the protection level of the load cell? Factors that affect the level of protection of the load cell: one is whether there is an enclosure; the other is the welding design; the third is the sealing material.

In general, the design with shell is better than the design without shell, in terms of welding design, it is necessary to avoid welding stress as much as possible. If this is unavoidable, check the weld strength, especially the fatigue strength. Small cracks caused by fatigue are a major reason for moisture ingress and failure of load cells and pressure load cells.

In terms of sealing materials, it should be noted that a load cell that passes the IP67 half hour water immersion test may fail the 12-cycle damp heat test in the load cell standard. It must be said that the damp heat test specifiedrd in the load cell standard is more in line with the environmental requirements of the load cell, and its severity is not lower than IP67.

Influenced by price competition, many manufacturers have canceled the protective shell of the load cell, and the most common is the tensile force cell. At present, the S-type load cells, liquid level load cells and plate-ring load cells produced in China have almost all canceled the shell.
