Comparison and selection of TABER wear-resistant method and Martindale surface grinding method

Product introduction

The abrasion resistance of leather is the property of leather to withstand wear and tear. Leather wear is an important cause of leather damage. Although the abrasion resistance of leather has not yet been assessed as a national standard, the abrasion resistance test of leather is still indispensable for measuring its quality, and it is of great importance for evaluating the abrasion resistance of leather.

According to the different instruments used in the test, there are two commonly used methods: Martindale surface grinding method and TABER wear-resistant method

1. TABER method for wear resistance (1000 times) -- Taber test machine for wear resistance

(1) Reference standard: GB/ T2726-2005 Determination of abrasion resistance of leather physical and mechanical tests.

(2) Test instrument: TABER wear resistance tester

(3) Test principle: pre-grinding 25 Turn, placethe sample to be tested on the horizontal platform of the TABER wear-resistant testing machine to rotate, and two grinding wheels are given a specific pressure to press the test piece. The axis of the grinding wheel is parallel to the horizontal plane, one grinding wheel is facing outward and the other is facing inward, record all the changes of the test piece within a certain time.

(4) Test method: Use a cutting knife to cut a sample with an outer diameter of 108 mm and an inner diameter of 8 mm. Then stick a hard sticker of the same size on the back of the sample. Place the center hole of the sample on the rubber pad of the screw, put the gasket on it and fix the sample with the compression nut. Then insert the fixing ring and lock the fixing ring screw with a wrench. Install two H18 grinding wheels on the support arm. Each grinding wheel exerts a force of 250 ± 10 g on the getfirst sample. Make sure that the side with the label faces outwards, so that the load on the grinding wheel is 500 g. Connect the vacuum cleaner and suck the dust out of the vacuum cleaner Connect the hose to the connection on the left side of the machine and start the vacuum cleaner. Set the number of tests according to the standard and set the rotation speed to 72 revolutions. Then press the start button, start the instrument with a rotational speed of 60 ± 5 times / min, rotate horizontally, and run the test according to the required number of times. During the test, use a brush to remove the attachments on the surface of the sample, observe the wear of the test, grind the leather to the end, and record the number of final turns.

2. Martindale flat grinding method (10,000 times) - Martindale abrasion tester

(1) Reference Standard: GB/T21196-2007 Beeel of the abrasion resistance of Fabrics by Martindale Method.

Comparison and selection of TABER wear-resistant method and Martindale surface grinding method

(2) Test instruments: There are many kinds of surface grinding instruments for fabrics. At present, the Martin Denier instrument is mostly used in the testing industry , therefore, the flat grinding method is often called MARTINDALE Friction Tester Method.

(3) Test Principle: The round sample installed in the sample fixture of the Martindale Abrasion Tester, under the specified load, is tested by Li Sharu (The plane movement of the Lissajous) figure rubs against the abrasive material (that is, the standard fabric), and the sample holder can freely rotate around its axis perpendicular to the horizontal plane. is determined by the total number of frictions that broke the sample.

(4) Test method: During the test, the test sample of a certain size comes into contact with the standard abrasive under the specifiedrth pressure, and the sample is subject relative to the abrasive with the Lissajous locus movement, making the test specimen wear evenly in multiple directions.

Judging by the test methods of the above two tests, the results of the test methods for the wear resistance of different materials are not the same. The MARTINDALE method for friction testing machines expresses the wear resistance by the end point and appearance changes. The TABER abrasion tester method is to record the number of rubs as an indicator of wear resistance.

It makes no sense to compare the test results obtained by using the same experimental method for different materials, but the conclusions drawn from these results are consistent. Therefore, each method can independently quantitatively evaluate the wear resistance of the material. Comparison of the above test results shows date the material of natural leather is generally soft, so the wear resistance is poor. Coated leather has a harder texture and is not easy to wear, so it has better wear resistance.

For leather products, the wear resistance is also related to the size, shape, test environment, wearing environment, subjective error, instrument accuracy, etc. of the product, so we judge When evaluating of the abrasion resistance of leather, it is necessary to take into account various factors as much as possible in order to get a more objective answer.
