Commonly Used Wear Resistance Test Methods for Automotive Leather Interior Materials

The wear resistance test of automobile interior materials is currently a very large category in the domestic testing industry.  1. Martindale Abrasion Resistance Method
Martindale Abrasion Resistance Method is often used in abrasion resistance test and assessment of pilling of textiles. The national standard GB/T3903.16-2008 of mon country “Methods of Testing Wear Resistance of Shoe Uppers, Linings and Insoles” stipulates the test method for testing shoe uppers using the Martindale method. It is also applicable to the wear resistance of automobile leather. test.
 
Using the Martindale abrasion method, the sample is rubbed with a standard friction cloth under constant pressure. The relative motion of the Lissajous figure occurs between the friction fabric and the specimen, producing friction in all directions. After performing the specified number of frictions, assess the degree of damage to the sample.
 
 2. TABER Abrasion Resistance Method
The American standard ASTM D 3884-2009 “Standard test method for abrasion resistance textile fabrics (TABER device) » suitable for TABER Resistance. Grinding methods are specified. The principle of testingThe TABER wear resistance method is as follows: the sample to be tested is placed on a rotating platform, and the two friction wheels above perform rotational friction movement with the sample under a certain charge to carry the sample. One friction wheel faces outward and the other friction wheel rubs the sample inward, forming a circular wear mark. After a specified number of rubs, the degree of wear of the specimen is assessed visually.
 
Operation process: Fix the sample face up on the rotating platform and install the selected grinding wheel on the supporting pressure rod. After selecting the appropriate load, lower the supporting pressure bar so that the grinding wheel contacts the sample surface, connect and turn on the dust suction device. Start the instrument and perform the test according to the number ofe revolutions defined by the counter. After testing, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card in accordance with GB/T 250-2008 “Textile Color Fastness Test – Gray Sample Card to assess discoloration.
 
 3. STROLL wear resistance method
According to ASTM D 3886-1999 \"Standard test method for wear resistance of textile fabrics (inflated diaphragm apparatus)》, the testing principle of STROLL wear resistance method is to place the test sample on a rubber diaphragm inflated with constant air pressure and use sandpaper with specified surface characteristics to rub the sample. After a specified number of rubs, the degree of wear of the test piece is visually evaluated.

Operation steps: place the sample on flat rubber film, puis place the sandpaper on the abrasive plate and adjust the contact head of the sandpaper connection with the sandpaper surface. An air pressure of 28 kPa was then applied below the diaphragm and a pressure of 454 g above the abrasive plate, ensuring that air pressure control and contact between the aerated sample and the paper loaded glass were stable and balanced. Start the instrument and carry out the test according to the number of revolutions defined by the counter. After the test is completed, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample and use a gray card sufficient to evaluate the color change in the test area according to GB/T 250-2008 \" Textile Color Fastness Test - Gray Sample Card to Assess Fading\'.

During the operation, place a piece of polyurethane foam with a thickness of (3±1)mm and a density of (30±3)kg/m3 on the back of the sample, and use ring clamp to fix the sample on the grinding head, place the table felt on the grinding table, then place the friction cloth on the table felt, place a heavy object that generates a pressure of (2 ± 0.2) kPa on the friction cloth, and then attach the friction cloth. Finally, install the grinding head on the wear-resistant testing machine, apply a pressure of (12 ± 0.2) kPa to the grinding head, start the instrument, and carry out the test according to the number of rotations defined by the counter. After the test is completed, remove the sample, check and record the wear of the sample, and use a gray sample card to evaluate the color change in the test area according to GB/T 25.0-2008 \"Test of textile color fastness - Gray sample card to assess fading\".
