How to operate the martindale abrasion tester?

Author: Released in:2021-02-20 Click:155

Martindale abrasion tester can detect the wear resistance and pilling performance of various fabrics. Under a certain pressure, the sample and the specified abrasive are subjected to continuous reversing friction, and the wear and pilling degree are evaluated by comparing with the standard parameters. Touch screen control, equipped with a full-featured programmer, which can pre-program batch and total count, and set the count of each test head independently; Four speeds including standard speed can be selected.

Martindale Abrasion Tester

Testing standard:

GB/T 21196.1-2007 textiles-determination of wear resistance of martindale fabrics-part 1

GB/T 21196.2-2007 textiles-determination of wear resistance of martindale fabrics-part 2

GB/T 21196.3-2007 textiles-determination of wear resistance of martindale fabrics-part 3

GB/T 21196.4-2007 textiles-determination of wear resistance of martindale fabrics-part 4

Method of martindale abrasion tester:

GB 8690-88 test method for wear resistance of wool fabrics Martin denier method

ISO 12945-2:2002 textiles-determination of surface pilling property-part 2: martindale method

GB/T 13775-92 abrasion resistance test of cotton, hemp and spun silk woven fabrics-martindale method

ASTM D4966-1988 standard test for abrasion resistance of fabrics Martindale abrasion tester

ASTM D4970-2002 standard test method for anti-pilling of fabrics-martindale tester

Operating steps:

  1. Instruments and equipment: martindale wear tester
  2. Test sampling: samples shall not have obvious creases and defects, and shall be conditioned as required.
  3. Operation method:

A. cut 8 samples with the size of φ Φ140mm.

B. prepare 8 pieces of Φ140mm felt (750gsm, 2.5mm thick).

C. prepare 8 samples with φ Φ38mm.

D. Place the felt flat on the test disc, and place the test sample on it.

E. flattening the sample and felt with a press block. After fixing, remove the pressing block.

F. install the φ Φ38mm sample and add the required sample weight.

  1. Evaluation criteria: mainly divided into four levels:

Grade 1: acceptable (entanglement point is 0), lint-free

Grade 2: acceptable (entanglement point ≤5), slightly fluffing

Grade 3: Unqualified (entanglement point ≤10) with serious fuzzing

Grade 4: Unqualified (entanglement point ﹥10) with serious fuzz

Martindale abrasion tester is judged as grade 3.5 when the fuzzing condition or entanglement point is between grade 3 and 4, and the final grade of the sample is (x1+x2+…+x8)/8, and the final grade ≤2 is a qualified product. If two or more of the eight test samples have serious fuzzing, they are regarded as unqualified samples.
