Working principle of the martindale abrasion tester:

The measured fabric is mounted in the upper sample clamp and made friction with the abrasive on the grinding table.The friction trajectory is the Lissajous figure. According to the test requirements, after the specified friction stage, the fabric is taken down and theabrasion resistance index is calculated or the visual description mode is used to assess the pilling and snagging grade of the sample.

2. Test methods:

Parameters of the martindale abrasion tester:

1. Load: 12KPa

2. Number of tests: 20,000 times for fabrics, 40,000 times for lining and 25,000 times for stitch bonded non-woven fabric.

Test procedure of martindale's abrasion tester:

1. Place the sample in the lab environment for more than 8 hours.

2. Cut a sample in the flat part of the sample. If sample is shoe pad, it should be cut to the transfer area.

3. Remove the load and load shaft from the test machine.

4. Remove the top plate and test fixture.

5. Sample installation: loosen retaining ring on the test fixtures and take out the sample tablet. Put the sample into the test fixture base, and place a sample gasket between the sample and test fixture base. Then put sample tablet on the gasket and fix it with the retaining ring.

6. Wool felt and friction cloth installation: loosen the screw and the retaining ring. Put the wool felt at the base and then lay the friction cloth. Load a 2.5 kg of pressure plate on the middle of the friction cloth. Reload the fixing ring and lock the screws.

7. Reload the top plate and drive the load shaft (12KPa) through the round hole in the top plate.

8. The test fixture with test samples will be installed on the base fixture up downward, and the circular grooves of the test fixture shall be aligned to the load axle shaft, and the load shaft is inserted into the circular groove of the test fixture.

9. Set the number of times as per standard , start the switch and start the test.

10. After arriving at the set number of times, automatically stop and take down the specimen for assessing test results.
Attention to the operation of the martindale abrasion tester:

1. Friction cloth cannot be used over and over again, and friction cloth should be replaced for each test.

2. Wool felt can be used over and over again until the surface is worn or stained.

3. The cloth of the shoe pad should removed first, then go on with the martindale wear-resisting test.
